Gunmen Kill Air Force Officer in Libya's Benghazi

Gunmen have abducted and killed a senior Libyan air force officer in the eastern city of Benghazi, cradle of the country's 2011 armed uprising, a security official said on Friday.

"Unidentified assailants aboard a pick-up truck in military uniforms abducted a pilot, Colonel Aguila Milud al-Obeidi, while he was at a friend's house in the Al-Guarsha district before killing him," Colonel Mohammed al-Hijazi told Agence France Presse.

ICC Rejects Libya Bid to Suspend Gadhafi Son Handover

The International Criminal Court on Thursday rejected Tripoli's request to suspend the handover of slain leader Moammar Gadhafi's son Seif al-Islam.

"The Appeals Chamber... rejected the Libyan authorities' request to suspend the surrender...," the Hague-based court's appeal judges said in a statement.

Gunmen Kill Libya Brigade Commander

Gunmen in a vehicle have shot dead a commander of a Libyan air force brigade in the eastern city of Derna, Lana news agency said on Tuesday.

"Colonel Fethi Ali al-Amami, a commander with the investigation and rescue brigade of the Libyan air force, was killed on Monday night in the city of Derna," the agency reported.

Republicans Back on Benghazi Attack 10 Months On

Ten months to the day after four Americans, including an ambassador, died in an attack on a U.S. mission in Libya, Republican lawmakers Thursday voiced anger that no-one was charged.

Libya Ministry Open after Week-Long Closure by Gunmen

Libya's interior ministry reopened Wednesday after being forced to close for more than a week by gunmen demanding the dissolution of an ex-rebel force attached to the ministry, a spokesman told Agence France Presse.

"The interior ministry is working normally and the staff have resumed their posts," said Hussein al-Amari of the ministry's information bureau.

Britain to Train 2,000 Libyan Troops

Britain is to train up to 2,000 Libyan troops in a bid to "help them achieve peace and stability across their country", the British defense ministry announced on Tuesday.

"The UK armed forces are to train their Libyan counterparts in basic infantry skills and leadership training with courses beginning later this year," the ministry said in a statement.

Hundreds of Migrants Intercepted on Boats from Libya

Hundreds of migrants were intercepted by Italian, Libyan and Maltese border guards on Tuesday on several boats leaving from Libya, a day after Pope Francis called for more solidarity with the refugees.

Italy's coast guard said in a statement it had scrambled cargo vessels that were in the area to help out during the nighttime operation to rescue 303 migrants on three boats that were in difficulty.

Two Killed as Chopper Crashes at Libya Airshow

A Libyan military helicopter crashed during an airshow in the eastern city of Benghazi on Thursday killing two crew members and wounding a third, an airforce official told Agence France Presse.

The accident occurred while a military parade was underway at the Benina airbase in Benghazi, Libya's second city and cradle of the 2011 uprising that toppled dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

Hundreds of Refugees from Libya Refuse to Leave Tunisia Camp

Several hundred people who had fled the 2011 Libya conflict refused Sunday to leave the Choucha refugee camp in southern Tunisia, which was due to be shut, blocking attempts to dismantle their tents, Agence France Presse reported.

The U.N.'s refugee agency UNHCR said in March that it would close the camp on Sunday. Choucha opened in early 2011 to shelter those fleeing the conflict that toppled Libya's former strongman Moammar Gadhafi.
