Gadhafi's Son to Stand Trial in August

Seif al-Islam, the son of slain Libyan dictator Moamar Gadhafi, and other former top regime officials will stand trial in August for crimes committed during the 2011 uprising, an aide to the prosecutor said on Monday.

Former spy chief Abdullah al-Senussi will be among those whose trial will begin in the first half of August, said Al-Seddik Al-Sur, a member of the prosecutor's office.

Libya Acquits Two Gadhafi Aides in Lockerbie Case

A Libyan court acquitted two former aides of slain dictator Moammar Gadhafi on Monday of charges connected to the deadly 1988 bombing of a U.S. airliner over Lockerbie, Scotland.

But the two remain, however, in detention in connection with a separate case involving their role in repressing the 2011 rebellion against the slain dictator's regime, a prosecution official said.

Libya PM Due in Benghazi after Bloody Clashes

Libya's premier was due to meet local authorities in Benghazi on Sunday, a government source said, as special forces units patrolled the city a day after clashes with gunmen killed six soldiers.

Prime Minister Ali Zeidan was due to travel to the eastern city with members of his government to discuss the security situation, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Gunmen Assassinate Judge outside Court in Eastern Libya

Gunmen shot dead an appeal court judge in the eastern Libyan town of Derna on Sunday, official news agency LANA cited the head of the court, Abdelaziz Trabelsi, as saying.

"Judge Mohammed Ibrahim Houidi, president of the criminal division, was killed on Sunday morning as he left the appeals court building in Derna," he said.

ICC Suspends Order for Libya Handover of Gadhafi Spy Chief

Tripoli need not immediately hand over the late Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi's former spy chief, Abdullah Senussi, to the International Criminal Court to face charges of crimes against humanity, the Hague-based court said Friday.

The temporary suspension of the order requiring Libya to hand Senussi over came amid a legal tug-of-war between the ICC and Tripoli over where Senussi and also Gadhafi's son Seif al-Islam should be tried.

South Africa Vows to Return Gadhafi Assets to Libya

South Africa will return assets and cash stashed by the slain Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi in the country after reaching an agreement with Tripoli, the finance ministry said on Thursday.

The two governments agreed on "the repatriation from South Africa of Libyan funds" that are thought to include diamonds and gold worth more than $1 billion.

Former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi plotted to have Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi assassinated by the secret services, Italy's Il Fatto Quotidiano daily said Thursday, sparking a heated denial from the magnate's spokesman.

"In the middle of the Libyan crisis... Silvio Berlusconi made a rather unusual request to the head of the secret services: 'Can you eliminate Gadhafi?'", the left-wing paper said, citing "an authorized diplomatic source close to the security services."

Libyan Colonel Wounded in Benghazi Attack

An attempt to kill a senior Libyan army officer in the eastern city of Benghazi on Wednesday left him lightly wounded, the army's general staff said.

It said on its Facebook page that Colonel Abdullah al-Shaafi, spokesman for the Joint Operations Room in Benghazi, had been the target of an attempted assassination.
