Syrian National Seriously Wounded by Landmine along Northern Border

A Syrian national was wounded on Tuesday in a landmine while he was trying to enter Lebanese territories through an illegal border crossing in the town of Debabiyeh in north Lebanon.

According to the state-run National News Agency, Syrian Abdullah Kh. A. was seriously injured in the landmine explosion and one of his legs was amputated.

Mashnouq Slams Resistance, Says Arms to be Removed of Political Equation

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq lashed out at the resistance on Tuesday, saying that the arms of Hizbullah should be removed from the country's political equation.

“I believe that we surpassed the period of the resistance. It became a regional power that even the Lebanese don't have the decision whether to use it or not,” Mashnouq said in an interview with the Saudi al-Watan newspaper.

Syria's ambassador to Lebanon said Monday the upcoming Syrian presidential election will be the resounding answer to all those who doubt that his government will prevail in its current conflict.

Sitting in his office at the hilltop Syrian Embassy just outside the Lebanese capital, Ali Abdul Karim Ali said he expects a huge turnout for the vote scheduled to be held abroad on Wednesday and in Syria on June 3.

Syria Opposition Urges Lebanon Not to Return 'Refugees Fleeing Assad Tyranny'

The opposition Syrian National Coalition on Monday urged Lebanese authorities not to turn back refugees fleeing the brutal war in the neighboring country and expressed its “intention to revise treaties” signed between Lebanon and Syria.

“We fully understand the unbearable burdens that this refugee influx inflicts on Lebanon at the demographic, economic, security and social levels,” the Coalition said in a “letter to the Lebanese people,” the third since the Syrian revolt started in March 2011.

Morocco Arrests 3 Accused of Supporting Jihad in Syria

Morocco's interior ministry announced on Monday the arrest of three people suspected of recruiting and financing jihadists to fight in Syria alongside al-Qaida "terrorist" groups.

Two of the suspects arrested in the central city of Fez "are implicated in recruiting Moroccan fighters for Syria," where rebels are battling the regime of President Bashar Assad, a statement said.

Syrian rebels made advances on Monday in the war-torn country's northwest, seizing several army checkpoints as they inched closer towards taking over two major bases, a monitor and activists said.

Syria is to expel Jordan's charge d'affaires, in a tit-for-tat move hours after Amman gave the Syrian ambassador 24 hours to leave the kingdom, state-run television said Monday.

"The Syrian foreign ministry will order the expulsion of the Jordanian charge d'affaires to Damascus, after the Jordanian foreign ministry declared the Syrian ambassador to Amman persona non grata," said Al-Ikhbariya television.

Syria's Qaida Claims Homs Car Bomb Attacks

Al-Qaida's Syria branch on Monday claimed responsibility for two car bomb attacks a day earlier in the central city of Homs that according to the governor killed 12 people.

"God generously made it possible for the jihadists of Al-Nusra Front in Homs... to break through the strongholds of the regime's shabiha (militia)... despite the many obstacles, security barriers and checkpoints," the jihadist group said on Twitter.

Lebanon to Extradite Saudi Detainee for Trial in Riyadh

Lebanese authorities are carrying out the necessary measures to deport a detained Saudi national based on an official request by Saudi Arabia to try him over several charges in his home country.

Sources said in comments published on Monday in the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat that the competent Lebanese authorities are wrapping up judicial, diplomatic and security documents that are necessary to hand over Saudi national Abdullah Ahmed Mohammed al-Bishi to Saudi authorities.
