Bab al-Tabbaneh Residents Block International Highway Demanding Compensations

Bab al-Tabbaneh residents briefly blocked on Tuesday the international highway that links the northern city of Tripoli with Akkar for the second week in a row to protest the government's failure to compensate them for the damages caused by the recent incidents in the city.

The residents, according to the National News Agency, demand a swift solution.

They urged officials to send a delegation from the Higher Relief Council to pay them their compensations.

Clashes in October between the rival districts of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh, which were sparked by the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head chief Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan in a powerful car bombing in the Beirut district of Ashrafiyeh on October 19, left 11 people dead and around 39 others wounded.

Media reports said that battles in the city in May and August killed at least 23 people in total and wounded dozens.

The two neighborhoods have been gripped by frequent fighting between pro- and anti-Syrian President Bashar Assad supporters, reflecting a split between Lebanon's parties where the March 14-led opposition backs the revolt in Syria, while a ruling coalition led by Hizbullah supports the Damascus regime.

they're actually right BECAUSE this government is compensating the Achrafieh citizens and businesses that were hit when HA killed Colonel Hassan.

Are Bab al Tabbaneh residents less important?

There is a difference, yes they should get compensation but from the pockets of the ones who took up arms and fought against eachother. They're the ones who caused the mess, therefore they are responsible for cleaning up the mess they caused. And it was so repetitive and nothing was solved, to the point where the army had to come in.

Definitely, the government shouldn't pay anybody. because no one got compensated for their loss during the civil war... and it was more than material damage, there was loss of life. BUT, nobody got judged for their warcrimes either, except Geagea who was locked up. Berri, Aoun, Jumblatt etc... are all here richer than ever. Tell me where the logic is.

Achrafieh's residents are innocent bystanders.
Bab el tebbaneh residents actually fired against jabal mohsen. (to defend themselves maybe). But they did participate in the war.

How many armed men is there in the Bab or the Jabal? Most residents there are as innocent as our Achrafieh people.

Actually FT, there have been many attempts to get "police or detectives or judicial systems" involved but HA is somehow ALWAYS above the law so please spare us your cynicism...

Blocking highway's...great way to obstruct everyone else all because of their mess. "Guys we're gonna cause more problems because of our mistakes, which have NOTHING to do with you, pay for us too!"
