Opposition MPs Slam ‘Expired’ Cabinet at Start of Parliamentary Session

March 14 opposition lawmakers launched a strong attack on Premier Najib Miqati’s government on Tuesday, describing it as an “expired” cabinet that took the country to the era of tutelage.

Deputy speaker Farid Makari was the first to address the parliament at the start of a three-day parliamentary session aimed at assessing the performance of the executive authority.

He said the cabinet was made up by a “forged majority” that was “born in the dark and forced us to live in the dark.”

Makari also described the government as “decomposing over its growing differences,” saying Miqati should resign before losing more credibility.

Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra continued with the criticism that the deputy speaker had started, saying the cabinet has taken the country back to the era of tutelage.

“Nobody trusts you anymore,” he told the ministers who flanked the premier at the session.

“Go back to your consciences,” he said as he urged “the de facto forces” to provide his personal protection so that he could take part in the 2013 elections.

He also slammed the government for involvement in the red diesel scandal, for severe power cuts and bad mobile phone services.

MP Robert Ghanem, who was next on the list of around 50 lawmakers to address the parliament, called for a serious dialogue to protect the country and the Lebanese.

Deputy Marwan Hamadeh also launched a scathing attack on the government, saying its policy of distancing itself from Syria was “backing the killers,” in reference to the Assad regime which has launched a deadly clampdown on protestors since March last year.

The majority “will not accept the arms to replace their election ballots,” he said in reference to Hizbullah’s weapons.

so till now 3 or 4 14M MP have spoken and not one document not one piece of data was presented just empty allegations obama style, why am i not surprised?

slash why do you have to get personal on everything? anyway, thanks to FPM we now have 3.9G and I can interact via internet wherever I am. Maybe when you left the country during the Harriri era we were still in the dark ages but now... so maybe you should pass by for a few days, I am sure at the end of your trip you'll ask for an FPM membership

What data do they need? The red diesel scandal is public knowledge, backing the Syrian murdering regime is public knowledge, the power shortages are public knowledge. Do they need to do a survey of things already known?

This current government is a sad joke and whatever happened to the red diesel scandal? did Aoun and family cover it up successfully just like releasing the traitor Karam? Aoun, Bassil, Kenaan the other Aouns...a true Mafia.

You will forgive me for not taking your word for it. It is not conceivable that M14 is so powerful that it was able to suppress all the media outlets so as to hide the news?
Walaou, even FPM and all M8 outlets, not even a single URL, really ;-)

If I want really to assess things I find that 20 years of harriri rule got us into 60 obillion debts , no electricity , no infrastructure , no water , nothing
As for electricity the harriri governments fired the late George's Ferm who had a Comprehensive plan for electricity if it was applied then we had 24 24 electricity
And this government at least put a plan for electricity , for extracting oil and gaz and it is only in power for less than a year

"Maybe when you left the country during the Harriri era we were still in the dark ages but now..."

good for kesrweneh who as long as he s got internet feels in a developped country...
1/traffic jams haven t been solved = still in the dark ages
2/buildings built anywhere in anarchy = still in dark ages
3/nobody controls the prices giving way to increases with no reason = still in dark ages
4/ salaries lower than ever = still in dark ages
5/ infrastructure = still in dark ages
6/ no plan to create efficient public transportations ( taxi boat, trains tramways...)= still in dark ages
7/ corruption still as high as in the syrian ages = still in dark ages
8/people still die in front of hospitals = still in dark ages
we can go on...

but i guess as long as kesrwenh has 3G lebanon is a developped country and he praises his FPM team for that!

let us pity him....

And are all these new things? How did 14th of march tackle these when they were in the government?
Whatever the current government did, it still did MUCH more than any government led by Hariri (whether father or son).

the idiot tells the FPM impolite (but typical from his culture) that at least the gvt could show signs that they have the will to do all this... but so far killou HAKI...

By the power of hizbushaitan weapons and pressure, this government cannot be made to fall democratically, thus all these discussions are useless.
we return to the same point: hizbushaitan has to turn over its weapons to the army, or to hell with them with whatever is going to happen.
unfotunately, to destro them, our country will also be totally destroyed. so frget about all the problems we are facing now, as we will face worse soon.

Missing peace 17 April 2012, 21:44

HAHAHAHAHA your friends from M8 didn t destroy lebanon in 2006 i guess :) neither did they took the streets pointing their guns towrds the interior breaking once again their promise:)

FPM idea of a thriving country is becoming more and more appealing...

just tell us ONE thing the hezbollah did for the good of the country s economy? hahahahaha!

Thumb geha 18 April 2012, 07:04

@FT
man are you for real? is this all you have to say?
who wishes for his country to be destroyed?
israel has been preparing for this since 2006 as well as hizbushaitan: do you expect the upcoming war to be aything but destructive?
where do you find joy in destruction of your country? do you think israel will accept the iranian threat at its border at whatever the price?
get real!

Less than ten years ago the politicians in this government were attacking the M14 politicians who were in the government for the same things. Nothing new about the corruption in a lebanese government.

Who caused the red diesel crisis, who shut down investigation on the active drub lab, who shut down investigation on who bought and inported spoiled meat from Israel? Who is sending killers to Syria? Who is covering up for ASSad who killed the Shia cameraman? Who is sheltering wanted criminals in the Harriri murder? Who builds on church and govt land illegally? This government is a corrupt fraud driven by the Hezz terror group.
