Report: US tells Aoun Israel won't strike Lebanon if not attacked

Lebanon has received positive signs from Washington, which has informed President Joseph Aoun that Israel “will not expand its operations or carry out any war or military activity outside the security zone” if Hezbollah does not attack it first, the Nidaa al-Watan newspaper reported on Thursday.

Accordingly, the efforts are currently focused on “convincing Hezbollah not to get involved in any potential battle between the U.S. and Israel on one side and Iran on the other,” the daily said.

“Speaker Nabih Berri is assuming this mission, knowing that the indications that his efforts have succeeded are not high,” the newspaper added.

The daily added that there is absolutely no likelihood that Washington can tell Israel what to do.
