President Joseph Aoun met Friday with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam after he returned from Paris where he met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordan's King Abdullah II.

The Paris meetings discussed the situation in southern Lebanon and prepared the ground for a donor conference for Lebanon's cash-strapped army.

Parliament renewed its confidence in Salam's government on Wednesday with 68 votes in favor, 12 against, and two abstentions, following two days of heated debate.

Salam will attend next week's U.N. General Assembly high-level meeting in New York.

Let us hope that their discussions centred on how can Lebanon and Israel reach agreements to the benefit of both sides and establish relations between them. The quicker this happens the quicker Israeli troops leave the south of the country and LAF, possibly with aid from an international force (not UNIFIL who have done nothing in all the years they have been there) takes full control of the area.
