Report: Agreement reached on 'specific formats' for army plan

Intensive consultations are taking place behind closed doors among senior political and non-political officials regarding the army’s weapons monopolization plan that will be presented to Cabinet on September 5, media reports said.

“An almost-final agreement has been reached on ‘specific formats’ on which the army plan will be based,” senior sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper in remarks published Saturday.

The efforts are aimed at “preserving civil peace and the country’s unity, security and stability,” the sources said, adding that “all parties agree on this without exception, with the aim of preventing any clash or troubles with any local party.”
