Sniper activity continued on Saturday afternoon in the northern city of Tripoli, wounding at least one person.
"Ahmed Mheish was wounded by sniper fire at al-Malloula highway in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh,” the state-run National News Agency reported.

A security plan was established to restore calm in the northern city of Tripoli after the death toll rose to 25 as clashes flared again,
Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Derbas revealed in comments published in An Nahar newspaper on Saturday that a comprehensive security was established and will be discussed during a meeting for the Higher Defense Council.

Two rockets struck a runway at the international airport in Libya's capital Tripoli on Friday, forcing the suspension of flights, an airport source said.
"Two rockets exploded on the main runway of the airport, causing damage. For security reasons, flights were suspended until further notice," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The northern city of Tripoli was witnessing fierce clashes on Friday as the casualty toll from nine days of fighting rose to at least 25 dead and 175 wounded amid a call for a unilateral ceasefire and intensive political contacts to end the violence.
"After we held contacts with the army command in the North, we asked the leaders of Bab al-Tabbaneh and the neighboring areas to cease fire starting 10:00 PM and the army must respond to any source of gunfire," MP Mohammed Kabbara said after an emergency meeting for the Islamic National Gathering at his residence.

Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) reported that clashes erupted at Syria Street during the funeral of Omar al-Ahmed, who died of wounds he sustained during the latest round of fighting in the city.

Security forces at Tripoli prison seized on Wednesday a number of narcotic pills that were going to be delivered to an inmate in the facility, reported the National News Agency.
It said that about a hundred benzhexol pills were found hidden in the handle of a mop that was delivered to a grocery store near the prison.

A security meeting at the Baabda Palace on Wednesday ordered the competent ministries and security forces to intensify cooperation and take the necessary measures to restore calm in tensed areas across Lebanon.
President Michel Suleiman chaired a security meeting that tackled the security chaos in several areas in the country, in particular, in the northern city of Tripoli and the Bekaa.

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Tuesday warned against “the dangers resulting from the incitement campaigns targeting the city of Tripoli and the town of Arsal,” stressing that “the State should be fully responsible of the safety of the citizens.”
He underlined that the residents of the two regions “will not surrender to the threats of those who are involved in killing the Syrian people and in causing sectarian discord in Lebanon and the region.”

Prime Minister Tammam Salam stressed on Tuesday that officials reject the concept of “consensual security” in Tripoli in light of the recent unrest in the northern city.
He said after meeting with lawmakers from Tripoli: “The gatherers requested that I propose before cabinet the adoption of a comprehensive security, economic, and development plan for the city and deprived northern regions.”
