At least 10 young Dutch citizens suspected of wanting to become jihadist fighters in Syria's deadly conflict have been refused passports over the "last months", the government's anti-terror organization said on Friday.
"It is a very effective way to prevent them from leaving," Jochgem van Opstal, spokesman for the National Anti-Terror and Safety Coordinator (NCTV) agency told Agence France Presse.

Fierce clashes raged Friday between Syrian troops and rebels in northeastern Damascus as government warplanes raided insurgent strongholds, a monitoring group said.

The brother of a member of Syria's opposition delegation to the failed Geneva II peace talks was arrested Friday at a security checkpoint in Damascus, an opposition source told Agence France Presse.
"The Syrian authorities have arrested Mahmud Sabra, the 34-year-old brother of lawyer Mohammed Sabra, a member of the opposition delegation to the Geneva talks," said the source, who asked not to be identified.

Rockets and shells fired from the Lebanese-Syrian border area landed in several regions in northern Bekaa on Friday.

A group of 38 male evacuees from besieged parts of the Syrian city of Homs were released Friday after investigation, leaving almost 200 others still being held, the provincial governor said.
