13 Regime Troops Dead as Rebels Blow Up 2 Tunnels in Aleppo

Rebels detonated two explosives-filled tunnels under a Syrian regime-held building in Aleppo on Tuesday, leaving "13 dead among the guards and regime forces" and wounding an unspecified number of others, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The building in Aleppo's mostly regime-controlled old city was a police station occupied by regime forces.

EU Increases Syria Humanitarian Aid by 50 Million Euros

The European Commission said Tuesday it would release a further 50 million euros ($67 million) in humanitarian aid for Syria as the crisis there deepens.

This brings the total amount of aid this year to 150 million euros, which the EU says is aimed at helping the most vulnerable people in a conflict that has so far cost more than 170,000 lives and displaced half the population of 23 million.

Syria Rebels Advance Towards Key Airport in Hama

Syrian rebels pressed on with a fresh advance in the central province of Hama, as they tried to take out its military airport, a rebel commander and a monitor said Tuesday.

"The rebels are now nine kilometers (six miles) away from Hama military airport, which they want to put out of action," said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman.

Mashnouq Says to Discuss with Moqbel, Rifi Implementation of Decision on Wanted Lists

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq said that he will hold talks with Defense Minister Samir Moqbel and Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi to implement a cabinet decision to abolish lists of wanted individuals.

In remarks to pan-Arab daily al-Hayat published on Tuesday, al-Mashnouq said his meeting with Moqbel, who is also the deputy PM, and Rifi will come after the Eid al-Fitr holidays, which end on Wednesday.
