The daughter of two anti-regime activists who was born in a Syrian jail 26 years ago has been arrested on her return from a brief trip abroad, a monitor said Tuesday.
"Maria Bahjat Shaabo was born in jail in 1988, while her mother was serving a four-year sentence for her political activism. On Sunday, Maria was arrested," said Rami Abdel Rahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters who joined the battle for the Syrian border town of Kobane have been heavily shelling Islamic State group jihadists, a commander told AFP.
Speaking to AFP by telephone from inside Kobane, the commander said the peshmerga were manning artillery in support of local Syrian Kurdish militia fighters, who have been battling the jihadists for nearly seven weeks.

The Islamic State (IS) jihadist group has released at least 93 Syrian Kurds from the flashpoint town of Kobane who were kidnapped in February, a monitor said Tuesday.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius called Tuesday for the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State group to help rebels in Syria's second city Aleppo hold out against the Damascus regime.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi stressed on Tuesday the importance of equality between Muslims and Christians in Lebanon, reiterating that the fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are not linked to Islam.

An Arab Israeli citizen on Monday was sentenced to 22 months in prison for joining the Islamic State jihadist group in Syria, Israeli court documents showed.
Ahmed Shorabji, a 23-year-old resident of the northern town of Umm al-Fahm, traveled to Syria on January 16 "illegally with several others and with the help of people smugglers" via Turkey, according to the verdict, seen by AFP.

A Lebanese man who hails from the northern city of Tripoli has been killed while fighting alongside jihadists in the Syrian border town of Kobane, reports said Monday.
They said Alaa al-Hosni, a resident of the Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh, died as he and other Islamic State group militants fought with fighters in Kobane, a Kurdish town.
