Erdogan Attacks U.S. 'Impertinence' on Syria

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday slammed U.S. "impertinence" on the Syrian conflict, exposing the extent of strains between Washington and Ankara days after his key meeting with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

Ties between the the U.S. and Turkey have soured in recent months over the reluctance of Turkish leaders to intervene militarily in the U.S.-led campaign against the Islamic State jihadists, who have taken control of swathes of Iraq and Syria.

Tripoli is Target for Islamic State Group

Jamal Hayak is finally fixing up his restaurant, damaged a month ago in clashes between the army and militants in this northern Lebanese city. But he has little doubt violence will erupt again, and he says he fears next time it will be Islamic State group fighters battling in Tripoli's streets.

"In the beginning we used to say. 'This is the last time.' Now we've had Round 21 and 22 (of fighting), so we say God knows," said Hayak, 56, grimy with dust as he fixed his shop, shelled during the four days of fighting in late October that killed over 20 people.

Syria Regime Raids on Islamic State 'Capital' Kill 95

Syrian regime air strikes on the Islamic State group stronghold Raqa have killed at least 95 people, while a delegation from President Bashar al-Assad's government held talks Wednesday with key ally Russia.

The bombing Tuesday was the deadliest by Assad's air force in Raqa since fighters from the Sunni extremist IS seized the city last year and declared it their capital.

Malaysia Plans Anti-terror Law amid IS Fears

Muslim-majority Malaysia will soon introduce a new anti-terrorism law to counter a potential security threat from supporters of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group, Prime Minister Najib Razak said on Wednesday.

Najib told parliament his government also would strengthen existing security-related laws as authorities express mounting concern that Malaysians who have joined the IS jihad in Syria and Iraq will return home to spread militant Islam.

Asiri Appeases Berri on Saudi Request to Blacklist Hizbullah

The Saudi Ambassador has informed Speaker Nabih Berri that a request made by Riyadh to the U.N. to blacklist Hizbullah and efforts to hold dialogue between al-Mustaqbal movement and Hizbullah were separate issues.

Local dailies on Wednesday quoted Berri as telling his visitors that he inquired Ambassador Ali Awadh Asiri about the request made last week by the Saudi diplomat to add Hizbullah to the U.N.'s sanctions list.

Zureikat Vows to Destroy Hizbullah Security Zones

The spokesman of the Qaida-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades, Sheikh Sirajeddin Zureikat, vowed to demolish the security zones of Hizbullah in Beirut and nearby areas.

“We will target Hizbullah's security premises on the Lebanese coast, in the Ouzai and nearby areas,” Zureikat said in an online recording on the memorial of the one-year bombing that targeted the Iranian Embassy in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a stronghold of Hizbullah.

U.N. Seeks more Cross-border Aid Deliveries to Syria

The U.N. Security Council will move to allow cross-border deliveries of relief supplies to Syria for another year, the president of the council said Tuesday, as new figures showed more Syrians were in need of aid.

The Council in July agreed in a resolution to allow truckloads of much-needed aid to cross into rebel-held Syrian territory without the consent of the Damascus regime.

Syria Jihadists Behead Ismaili Man for 'Apostasy'

The jihadist Islamic State group on Tuesday said it beheaded a member of the minority Ismaili community, an offshoot of Shiite Islam, accusing him of "apostasy".

"Yesterday (Monday) the Islamic police in Homs province carried out the punishment for apostasy against on an Ismaili apostate... The punishment was carried out before a group of Muslims," IS said in a statement distributed on jihadist forums.

Syrian Air Strikes on IS 'Capital' Kill 36 Civilians

A string of Syrian regime air strikes on the Islamic State group's self-proclaimed capital Raqa on Tuesday killed at least 63 people, more than half of them civilians, a monitor said.

The air strikes were the deadliest by President Bashar al-Assad's air force against Raqa since the Sunni extremist IS seized control of the city last year.
