The United Nations said Thursday there is an acute shortage of money to provide aid to refugees from Syria and their hosts in neighboring countries, appealing for funding to be speeded up.

Some 3.9 million people have fled the civil war in Syria, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said the shortage is hampering assistance to them and to more than 20 million people in the countries hosting them.

Iran held a joint funeral on Thursday for three nationals killed fighting the Islamic State group alongside forces of its close ally Syria, state media reported.

Israeli police said Wednesday they had carried out a "wave of arrests" of suspects involved in two attacks by Druze on military vehicles transporting wounded Syrians to hospital.

Israeli media said nine Druze were arrested over the attacks on Monday, when a mob killed a Syrian and wounded another in the Golan Heights and an ambulance was stoned in the Galilee town of Hurfesh.
