Report: Heated Debate Expected at Cabinet over Electricity File

A cabinet meeting scheduled on Wednesday to tackle 67 items on its agenda including the controversial file of Lebanon's electricity, is expected to witness heated debate over leasing power generating vessels to supply for the shortage and end power cuts in the country, al-Akhbar daily reported on Wednesday.

The Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement are “expected to engage in a dispute in light of the LF's insistence to abort the electricity plan initially suggested by FPM Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil,” it added.

Harb: Baabda Meeting Shouldn't be Confined to Ruling Authority

MP Boutros Harb said on Tuesday that an invitation for a consultative gathering at the Baabda Palace should have been extended to all political parties instead of confining it to those in power, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Tuesday.

“The invitation should not have been limited to the parties in power, it should have been extended to those outside the authority. Only then would the meeting at the Presidential Palace be chaired by the leader of the the entire Lebanese instead of leader of the ruling authority,” said Harb in an interview to the daily.

Saqr Charges Ten Suspects with Terror Links

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr charged ten suspects of Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian and Yemeni nationalities with belonging to a terrorist organization, the National News Agency reported on Thursday.

NNA reported that the suspects, five of whom are already in detention, were charged with carrying out terrorist attacks, forming terror cells to carry out suicide bomb attacks in Beirut's southern suburbs and the airport road, assassinations and the possession of weapons and explosives.
