The European Union and the United Nations launched a EUR 500 million Spotlight Initiative at the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Wednesday to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, a U.N. statement said.

After calls voiced by US President Donald Trump for seeking an approach for refugees settlement in their home region, Lebanon's parliament rejected on Wednesday the approach assuring that “there will be no settlement for refugees in Lebanon.”

State Security elements arrested a suspect with connections to the Islamic State extremist group in the northeastern border town of Arsal, the General Directorate of State Security said in a statement on Wednesday.

Lebanon's cabinet approved a suggestion to upgrade the citizen’s identity cards into “biometric identity cards”, or what is known as a magnetic voter card, that enables nationals to use their IDs to cast their votes at the upcoming parliamentary elections.
