Prime Minister Saad Hariri received a telephone call from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday, his media office annouced.

Dar Al-Fatwa, the highest Sunni authority in Lebanon, witnessed crowds of visitors for the third day in a row on Wednesday, most notably ex-President Amin Gemayel, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and French Ambassador Bruno Foucher in the wake of Prime Minister Saad Hariri's sudden resignation.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri has tasked MP Kazem al-Kheir to visit the Lebanese community in Australia to motivate them into taking part in the upcoming parliamentary elections by registering their names at embassies and consulates, the National News Agency reported on Wednesday.

President Michel Aoun is considering a meeting with the ambassadors of the five permanent members of the Security Council and ambassadors of the European Group and the Arab Group in the coming hours in the wake of Prime Minister Saad Hariri's resignation which stunned the Lebanese and left them hanging in uncertainty.

President Michel Aoun held a series of meetings on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace with former presidents, premiers, speakers and other officials where discussions focused on the measures needed in the wake of PM Saad Hariri's shock resignation.

Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil said on Tuesday that the Lebanese won't allow divisions to sow discord among them and that the crisis that emerged in the wake of PM Saad Hariri's resignation can be turned into an opportunity for national unity.

“We can turn this crisis into an opportunity. Today, we are all losers in what happened, but we will emerge from the crisis,” said Bassil after holding talks with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan at Dar al-Fatwa.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri held talks Tuesday in the UAE with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, on his first departure from the Saudi capital after the announcement of his shock resignation from Riyadh on Saturday.

Hariri returned to Riyadh after the talks with Abu Dhabi's ruler which tackled "the brotherly relations and the developments in Lebanon," his office said.

In the wake of Prime Minister Saad Hariri's resignation, President Michel Aoun will expand his political and party meetings on Tuesday to consult with everyone the steps that can be taken in order to ensure political consensus at all levels, al-Joumhouria daily reported.

President Michel Aoun met with top national security officials on Monday, saying the country's political leadership was keen to maintain stability in the wake of Prime Minister Saad Hariri's shock resignation.

PM Saad Hariri held talks on Monday with Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz in Riyadh where discussions highlighted the situation in Lebanon, his media office said in a statement.

The meeting comes less than 48 hours after he resigned as premier in a televised address from Riyadh.
