Former Israeli minister Ron Dermer has confirmed for the first time that he has returned to work for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that he has been appointed to lead negotiations with the Lebanese government.

"He asked me to get involved," said the former minister who retired from public life last November.

Israeli strikes and shelling targeted on Tuesday afternoon several regions in south Lebanon including al-Qsaybeh, Shhour, Jabshit-Harouf, Mayfadoun-Shawkin, Dweir and Deir al-Zahrani, al-Kharayeb, al-Taybeh, Kfartebnit, Arnoun, Aita al-Shaab, and Ramia.

At least nine people were killed in strikes on the south Tuesday, including three Lebanese army soldiers.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday reiterated that Hezbollah is a "big problem," while noting that "they're rapidly being eliminated" in the ongoing war with Israel.

"Hezbollah is a problem. It's been a problem for a long time, not just now," Trump said in response to a reporter's question.

State Commissioner to the Military Court, Judge Claude Ghanem, on Monday filed charges against four more Hezbollah members for possessing and transporting military weapons, media reports said.

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri on Monday held separate talks in Ain el Tineh with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa and French Ambassador Herve Magro.

Berri and Magro discussed the latest developments on the ground and the political situation resulting from Israel's continued attacks against Lebanon, the National News Agency said.

Hezbollah said it targeted overnight Israeli troops in Khiam, Odaisseh and al-Taybeh. It also targeted troops and bases in the occupied Golan and north of Kfar Yuval in the Galilee Panhandle of northern Israel.

Troops were also trying to enter Lebanese territories from the southern border towns of Yaroun and Maroun al-Ras, state-run National News Agency said.

Seven people, including children, were killed by Israeli airstrikes on south Lebanon Monday.

A strike on a home in the southern village of Kfar Sir had killed one person early Monday. Another strike occurred after paramedics from the Islamic Health Society, Hezbollah’s health arm, arrived at the scene, killing two paramedics and wounding another person.

Mahmoud Qmati, the deputy head of Hezbollah's Political Council, has rejected the reported French proposal to end the war between his group and Israel, saying it was "born dead."

Israel said on Sunday that no direct talks were planned with Lebanon to end the war, a day after a Lebanese official said Beirut was preparing a delegation to negotiate with Israel.

France's foreign ministry said Saturday there was "no French plan" to stop the fighting in Lebanon between Israeli forces and Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.
