Libya Attacks Kill Five at Govt Stronghold, Air Base

A string of attacks killed five people and wounded more than 20 in eastern Libya on Wednesday, including in a stronghold of the internationally recognized authorities, officials said.

An interior ministry official said a suicide attack hit the center of Tobruk, a town close to the Egyptian border and 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) east of Tripoli that is the base of a contested parliament elected in June.

U.N. Prosecutor: War Crimes May Be occurring in Libya

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court said Tuesday there were indications of war crimes being committed in Libya, warning that the strife-torn country was “on the wrong path.”

Fatou Bensouda told the U.N. Security Council that the violence in Libya had worsened over the past six months with the country now split between two governments and two parliaments vying for control.

Libya Parliament Rejects Supreme Court Decision to Nullify it

Libya's internationally recognized parliament on Thursday rejected a supreme court decision to nullify it, saying the ruling was taken "under the threat of arms".

"The House of Representatives rejects the verdict under these conditions and says it is still functioning, as is the government" elected on June 25, an official statement broadcast live on Libya Awalan television said.

U.N. Considers Adding Libya Jihadists to Terror List

France, Britain and the United States on Tuesday asked a Security Council committee to add Libyan Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia to a U.N. terror list for its ties to al-Qaida.

Ansar al-Sharia is already on the U.S. terror list for its role in the September 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

HRW: IS Jihadists Tortured Kobane Child Hostages

Islamic State jihadists subjected a group of teenagers from the Syrian battleground town of Kobane to a string of abuses, including torture, during six months in captivity, Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday.

A group of 153 schoolchildren was taken hostage by IS in May en route to their hometown of Kobane after sitting exams in the Syrian city of Aleppo, according to HRW.

Britain's defense ministry said Tuesday it was cutting short a training program for Libyan troops after reported sexual assaults allegedly involving five of the servicemen.
