Two Libyan soldiers were shot dead in separate incidents Thursday in the increasingly lawless eastern city of Benghazi, security officials said.

The killings are the latest in a spate of attacks in Benghazi on members of the military and the police force, as the North African nation struggles against insecurity.

A Libyan security forces member was killed Monday in the eastern city of Benghazi and four people were wounded in nearby Derna when gunmen fired on a protest against insecurity, officials said.

Benghazi -- cradle of the 2011 uprising that toppled long-ruling autocrat Moammar Gadhafi -- has seen a string of attacks on security forces in recent days following deadly clashes between the army and a jihadist militia known as Ansar al-Sharia.

The owner of a Libyan radio station that broadcasts exclusively in English and plays Western music was found dead in his car, his body riddled with bullets, the broadcaster said on Monday.

Tripoli FM, which touts itself as Libya's number one radio station, went off air temporarily to mourn the death of Radwan Ghariani, head of programs Rabii Dahan said.

Further east in the city of Derna, long seen as a bastion of radical Islamists, dozens of residents blocked roads, burned tires and called for a strike to protest against insecurity in the city, according to witnesses and a local official.

Libya's capital was hit by traffic jams on Sunday after an overnight downpour flooded several districts, blocking roads, causing power cuts and damaging several homes.

Despite the flood-waters receding after the deluge late on Saturday, many residents were still clearing up as homes in several districts remained without power.

The first in a series of elections across Libya were held Saturday in four towns of the south and in the restive east to replace local councils set up after the 2011 revolution.

The voting is seen as a test for the Libyan authorities who took over after veteran dictator Moammar Gadhafi was overthrown and killed in the armed revolt.

Unidentified assailants gunned down a soldier outside his home and attacked a special forces base in Libya's second city Benghazi during the night, a security official said on Saturday.

There were no casualties in the attack on the base even though the assailants used rocket-propelled grenades, sub machineguns and an anti-tank mine, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Three Libyan soldiers were killed and three wounded in new fighting in the restive eastern city of Benghazi Thursday as the army clashed with an armed group, a medic said.

"Three soldiers were killed and three wounded soldiers were admitted to the hospital," said Al-Jala hospital spokeswoman Fadia al-Barghathi.

Gunmen on Thursday opened fire on a vehicle in Libya's second city Benghazi killing a soldier, witnesses said, in the latest attack on the army in the country's volatile east.

The killing comes on the final day of a three-day Benghazi strike in protest over militias after a shootout on Monday between a jihadist group and the army left seven people dead and 50 wounded.
