President Joseph Aoun reiterated Tuesday that “any controversial issue can be resolved through dialogue” and that “no one in Lebanon wants to return to war.”

Lebanon's health ministry said a new Israeli strike on Tuesday killed one person, hours after a deadly raid elsewhere in the country despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

"The strike launched by the Israeli enemy" in the southern town of al-Hinniyeh in Tyre district "killed one person," the ministry statement said.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has stressed that Lebanon has fulfilled its obligations as per the ceasefire agreement with Israel, adding that Israel is yet to honor the arrangements.

Hezbollah has offered condolences over Pope Francis' death to the Christians of the world and Lebanon, hailing the late pontiff's "clear positions calling for an end to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip... and his support for the Palestinian cause."

President Joseph Aoun has meanwhile called Francis' death "a loss for all humanity, for he was a powerful voice for justice and peace" who called for "dialogue between religions and cultures."

A leader from Hamas-aligned Jamaa Islamiya was killed Tuesday in an Israeli strike near Damour, the Lebanese Islamist group and Israel's military said.

Israel has continued to carry out regular strikes on Lebanon despite a November truce with Hezbollah that sought to halt more than a year of hostilities between the foes including two months of all-out war.

President Joseph Aoun mourned the death on Monday of Pope Francis, a "dear friend and strong supporter" of the crisis-hit multi-confessional country.

"We will never forget his repeated calls to protect Lebanon and preserve its identity and diversity," Aoun -- the Arab world's only Christian president -- said in a statement on the presidency's X account, calling Francis's death "a loss for all humanity, for he was a powerful voice for justice and peace" who called for "dialogue between religions and cultures".

It's become a Good Friday tradition in Quraye: residents and visitors converging on the southern Lebanese village to witness a portrayal by some Christians there of Jesus' suffering and crucifixion.

On Friday, Charbel Joseph Antoun, 37, played the role of Jesus.

President Joseph Aoun visited Monday Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi who underwent surgery after breaking his hip during Easter Sunday mass.

At the start of a mass in Bkerke, north of Beirut, the 85-year-old Rahi "suffered a broken hip after stumbling on his robe while ascending to the altar", said a statement, carried by the official National News Agency.

Four people were killed and four others wounded when unexploded ordnance blew up inside a Lebanese Army vehicle in the southern town of Braiqaa on Sunday, media report said.

Lebanese authorities have detained several people who they say were planning to launch rockets into Israel and confiscated the weapons they were intending to use, the military said Sunday.

The army said in a statement that the arrests are linked to other detentions announced earlier this week. It added that as military intelligence was investigating that case they got information that a new rocket attack was being planned.
