HRW: Air Strike on Yemen Aid Facility could be Violation

An airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition on a warehouse of the aid group Oxfam appears to have violated the laws of war, Human Rights Watch said on Thursday.

The strike occurred on April 18 at Oxfam's facility in the northern city of Sadaa, a traditional stronghold of the Shiite Huthi rebels targeted by the coalition.

Berri Cancels AIPU Meeting after Saudi Snub

Speaker Nabih Berri has canceled the meeting of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) that was set to be held in Beirut end of April after he was informed by Saudi Arabia that it would not attend the talks, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Thursday.

Berri informed Arab parliaments that “the conference has been canceled for non-Lebanese reasons,” said al-Joumhouria.

Tricky Drafting of Iran Nuclear Deal Begins

Iran and major powers on Wednesday began the difficult process of finalizing by June 30 a historic deal putting an Iranian nuclear bomb out of reach, three weeks after agreeing the main outlines.

Following a negotiating marathon in Switzerland, Iran agreed on April 2 to what U.S. President Barack Obama called a "historic understanding... which, if fully implemented, will prevent (Iran) from obtaining a nuclear weapon."

New Kerry-Zarif Talks Possible in New York Monday

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry may meet next week with his Iranian counterpart in New York, for the first time since their marathon talks which sealed the outlines of an emerging ground-breaking nuclear deal.

U.S. officials said it was possible Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif would have talks Monday on the sidelines of the 2015 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference being held at the United Nations.

Israel Court Jails Belgian for Spying for Iran

An Israeli court sentenced an Iranian-born Belgian to seven years in prison Tuesday after convicting him of spying for Tehran posing as a businessman.

Ali Mansouri was arrested at Ben Gurion airport in 2013 as he attempted to leave the country carrying photographs of the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv and other sites, Israel's Shin Bet domestic security service said.

Report: Qahwaji to Travel to Egypt over Joint Arab Force

Army chief Gen. Jean Qahwaji is expected to attend a meeting for Arab military leaders in Cairo this week following an agreement at an Arab summit to establish a joint force, al-Akhbar daily reported on Tuesday.

Qahwaji will represent Lebanon at Wednesday's meeting which Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi has called for, said the report.

Argentina Court Throws Out Case Against Kirchner Again

An Argentine prosecutor on Monday again rejected a case against President Cristina Kirchner for allegedly protecting Iranian officials accused of orchestrating a deadly 1994 bombing.

Prosecutors had been seeking to relaunch the case that was being brought by their late colleague Alberto Nisman, who died mysteriously on January 18 as he prepared to publicly accuse Kirchner of shielding high-ranking Iranians suspected of ordering the attack on a Buenos Aires Jewish center.

U.S. Warship Heads to Yemeni Waters, May Block Iran Weapons

The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is steaming toward the waters off Yemen to beef up security and join other American ships that are prepared to intercept any Iranian vessels carrying weapons to the Houthi rebels fighting in Yemen.

Navy officials said Monday that the Roosevelt was moving through the Arabian Sea. The Navy has been beefing up its presence in the Gulf of Aden and the southern Arabian Sea amid reports that a convoy of about eight Iranian ships is heading toward Yemen and possibly carrying arms for the Houthis.

Zarif Says Nuclear Deal May Open Door to Regional Cooperation

Iran on Monday pushed its call for peace talks to end the fighting in Yemen, and offered assurances that a nuclear deal would pave the way for greater cooperation with its neighbors.

"With courageous leadership and the audacity to make the right decisions, we can and should put this manufactured crisis to rest and move on to much more important work," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote, referring to global suspicions about his country's nuclear program.

Washington Post Reporter Faces Spy Trial in Iran

The detained Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian faces trial for espionage and three other charges including "collaboration with hostile governments," his lawyer told AFP on Monday.

Rezaian, the newspaper's Tehran correspondent, has been in jail for nine months but no date has yet been set for court, Leila Ahsan said, revealing the case against her client for the first time and saying it contained "no justifiable proof."
