Israel's defense minister told Hamas on Monday to lay down its arms or face annihilation, after U.S. President Donald Trump said the militant group must accept a deal to release hostages in Gaza.

The warnings came as the Israeli military intensified its bombings and operations around Gaza City, which it has vowed to capture in a bid to finally defeat Hamas after nearly two years of devastating conflict.

Eight key members of the OPEC+ alliance have agreed to again boost oil production, in a strategy analysts saw as a bid to gain a bigger market share of sales of crude.

Oil ministers in the V8 grouping -- comprising Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman -- decided Sunday to increase daily production by 137,000 barrels a day from next month, they said in a statement.

France has called the cabinet's decision to ask the Lebanese Army to implement the disarmament plan "a new positive step."

A Hezbollah lawmaker vowed that the group will not abandon its weapons, a day after the Lebanese government ordered the army to begin implementing a plan to disarm it.
