Speaker Nabih Berri began his consultations to reach common ground among foes over the formation of Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam's cabinet, media reports said on Tuesday.
According to al-Joumhouria newspaper, Berri is exerting efforts to resolve the government crisis.
Sources told the newspaper that Salam expressed relief over Berri's initiative as the current stage compels the formation of a cabinet capable of confronting local and international affairs.
The newspaper said that Hizbullah voiced support to Berri's endeavors but insisted on being represented in Salam's cabinet based on its parliamentary weight.
Sources close to al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc told al-Akhbar newspaper published on Tuesday that the bloc backs Salam's cabinet formation process.
Following the resignation of Premier Najib Miqati's cabinet in March, Salam was designated to line up a cabinet, amid conflicting positions between the March 14 alliance that demands forming an impartial cabinet, the March 8 forces insisting on forming a political one, and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat's objection to a government that does not represent all Lebanese factions.
The main point of contention remains over the veto power, which Salam is holding onto and rejects to grant it to any coalition.
