Suspected Hezbollah members caught transporting 500 kg of explosives in car

The Military Police is interrogating two individuals who were arrested last Sunday at the Internal Security Forces checkpoint in Dahr al-Baydar after a quantity of explosives was found inside their car, An-Nahar newspaper has reported.

Security sources told the daily that the detainees are members of Hezbollah and that the amount of explosives they were transporting reached approximately half a ton.

According to the same report, there are suspicions that the detainees may have intended to use the explosives in an assassination operation, given the large quantity being transported across a vital route like Dahr al-Baydar.

An-Nahar said that one of the detainees hails from Baalbek, while the other hails from a town in Central Bekaa.

Sources meanwhile told MTV that the detainees' car contained hundreds of kilograms of highly explosive C4 material.

"The Military Police is handling the investigation with the two Hezbollah members to verify if others are involved in the explosives shipment," the sources added.

Al-Jadeed television meanwhile quoted security sources as saying that the car was stopped on Monday and that more than 250 kilograms of TNT and several other kilograms of materials used in detonation operations were found in it

The sources stated that according to the security agencies' investigations, the detainees are H.A., born in 1981, and A.K., born in 2001, who were aboard a gray Dodge car driven by the first, and there are suspicions regarding their affiliation with Hezbollah.

The detainees have not yet disclosed the intended destination to which these materials were being transported, knowing that the car was heading from the Bekaa toward Beirut.
