President Joseph Aoun stressed Friday that southerners' adherence to their land "is the strongest response to all attempts at displacement, intimidation and the attacks committed by Israel."
Meeting with a delegation from the municipality of the southern town of Deir Mimas, Aoun emphasized that “the state will remain alongside the people of the South -- both those who are persevering and those forcibly displaced from their villages and towns -- until the end of the Israeli occupation or the lifting of the siege on every southern village.”
He stated that the people of the South, especially those holding firm in their villages, are “the guardians of the land.”
“The state is your support and will protect you, and will not relinquish any inch of your land," Aoun added.
Noting that the state is “present as much as security conditions permit for every region, to protect its people and provide all requirements for their resilience,” the president underscored that “there will be no one other than the Lebanese Army and legitimate security forces, who are the sole authority responsible for the security of citizens."
He added that "political, diplomatic, and negotiation efforts are continuing to stop Israeli attacks, restore stability, achieve a complete withdrawal from the occupied territories, deploy the army up to the internationally recognized southern borders, ensure the return of residents to their villages, launch reconstruction, and support municipalities to enable them to carry out their role and provide basic services including electricity, water, roads, schools, and health centers."
