UK reaffirms support for stability, resilience and recovery in south Lebanon
A delegation from the British Embassy in Beirut, led by Chargée d’Affaires Victoria Dunne, visited south Lebanon last week to see first-hand the impact of the conflict on local communities and reaffirm UK support, the British Embassy said Tuesday.
In Saida, the delegation met Mansour Daou, Governor of South Lebanon and Acting Governor of Nabatieh, to discuss current challenges, the support needed to strengthen local resilience and recovery planning.
At a Social Development Centre, the delegation heard from social workers from the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), about their vital support for vulnerable Lebanese households through the Government of Lebanon’s Shock Responsive Safety Net Program. This MoSA-led initiative is delivered through an important partnership with the World Food Program (WFP). "The UK is proud to provide humanitarian funding for WFP and this partnership," the embassy said.
In Zahrani, the delegation visited a Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) training facility that was upgraded in 2025 by the UK’s Integrated Security Fund programme. Building on more than a decade of UK support to the LAF, the facility is a key training hub, preparing soldiers for deployment across south Lebanon and helping to extend the presence and authority of the Lebanese state.
Chargée d’Affaires Victoria Dunne said "This important visit to south Lebanon showed us both the devastating impact of the conflict and the direct, tangible difference UK support is making to local communities. The conflict has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis marked by thousands of deaths, widespread destruction and mass displacement. The UK remains committed to working with the Government of Lebanon and humanitarian partners to support stability and resilience and to deliver assistance to those who need it most."
