What did US general discuss with Aoun and Haykal?
President Joseph Aoun met Wednesday in Baabda with U.S. general Joseph Clearfield, the head of the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L), in the presence of U.S. Ambassador to Beirut, Michel Issa.
During the meeting, they discussed the procedures for implementing the framework agreement reached as a result of the Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in Washington, in light of General Clearfield's talks in Israel last week, the Presidency said.
Separately, Clearfield met in Yarze with Army Commander General Joseph Haykal.
A statement issued by the Lebanese Army said they discussed developments in southern Lebanon, security arrangements related to the framework agreement, and “the difficulties the army faces in carrying out its missions, primarily the continued attacks, bulldozing, and destruction by the Israeli occupation.”
“Both sides emphasized the importance of supporting the army in light of its operations in southern Lebanon and other regions of the country,” the statement added.
