Two people killed in strikes on Yater, Deir Aames

Two people were killed Tuesday in Israeli strikes that targeted the southern towns of Yater and Deir Aames, with Israel saying it had targeted members of Hezbollah.

One person was killed and another wounded in an Israeli drone strike on a car in Deir Aames.

An Israeli drone later targeted a bulldozer west of Yater, killing its driver.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it had killed Mahmoud Ali Issa in Deir Aames, alleging he was "responsible for the financial and military connections between Hezbollah and the residents of the village".

It also said it killed a Hezbollah member who "operated an engineering vehicle in the Zibqin area", near Yater, accusing him of trying to "reestablish Hezbollah terror infrastructure sites".

Around noon Monday, an Israeli drone strike near the southern city of Nabatiyeh killed a Hezbollah member, who was blinded last year in Israel’s exploding pagers attack, along with his wife in their car.

Shortly afterward, Israeli airstrikes struck Lebanon’s northeastern region of Hermel.

The most recent Israel-Hezbollah war killed more than 4,000 people in Lebanon, including hundreds of civilians, and caused an estimated $11 billion worth of destruction, according to the World Bank. In Israel, 127 people died, including 80 soldiers.

The war started when Hezbollah began firing rockets across the border on Oct. 8, 2023, a day after a deadly Hamas-led incursion into southern Israel sparked the war in Gaza. Israel responded with shelling and airstrikes in Lebanon, and the two sides became locked in an escalating conflict that became a full-blown war in September 2024.

Despite a November ceasefire, Israel kept up attacks on Lebanon, usually saying it is targeting Hezbollah. It also maintained troops in five areas of southern Lebanon it considers "strategic".
